A WEEKLY TRADITION

Friday Night Takeaway Vote

democracy, dinner, and the weekly ballot

Friday is nearly here. The week is done. And the only question that matters is — whose turn is it to pick? Takeaway, fakeaway, or whatever’s cooking at home tonight, someone’s about to win the vote.

HOW TO PLAY

A ballot box, a folded piece of paper, and suddenly everyone has a stake in Friday night. Democracy, compromise, and gracious losing. All before the food even arrives.

01

Set up the ballot

A jar, a small box, whatever you’ve got. Everyone writes their pick on a folded slip – takeaway menu, homemade options, or a fakeaway you’re happy to cook.

02

Vote in secret.

Fold it, drop it in, no peeking.

03

Count it together.

Whoever’s turn it is reads them out loud. Most votes wins.

04

Ties go to the youngest voter.

Always. No exceptions, no negotiating.

05

Keep score.

Tally the winners on the fridge. By December you’ll have a family food chart nobody expected.

No jar yet? Start tonight! Just go around the table and ask. The tradition starts now, not when the props arrive.

WHY IT WORKS

The connection

Even the smallest voice in the house gets an equal vote. Nobody’s opinion here is a formality, not even the four-year-old’s questionable taste in dumplings.

The Lesson is democracy, compromise, and gracious losing. All before the food even arrives.

MAKE IT YOURS

Make it fit your family

For the little ones

Give little ones picture cards of food options so everyone can play, even before they can write.

Fakeaway Fridays

Money’s tight some weeks, or you just can’t face the drive-thru again. Cook the vote-winner at home instead. A homemade curry or a from-scratch pizza still counts. The vote’s the tradition.

Any diet, same vote

Allergies, veggie nights, fussy stages, whatever your family needs, the ballot doesn’t care what’s on the menu. Everyone still votes. The winning dish just gets made to fit your family.

FREE PRINTABLE

Print it, pin it

A beautifully designed AF sheet for your fridge or dinner table. Print it at home and you’re ready tonight.
